Chinatown Complex: The Largest Hawker Centre
Over 700 stalls across two sprawling floors
Chinatown Complex Food Centre is the largest hawker centre in Singapore with over 700 stalls, offering an unmatched variety of cuisines.
Scale & Layout
Chinatown Complex Food Centre occupies the second floor of the Chinatown Complex building at 335 Smith Street. With over 700 stalls (around 260 cooked food stalls and the rest being market and retail stalls), it is the largest hawker centre in Singapore by far. The sheer scale can be overwhelming for first-time visitors, but that's also its greatest strength: the variety is unmatched anywhere else in the country.
Legendary Stalls
The centre is home to Hawker Chan, which made headlines worldwide when it became the cheapest Michelin-starred meal in the world. Lian He Ben Ji Claypot Rice draws hour-long queues for its fragrant claypot rice cooked over charcoal. Other notable stalls include Heng Ji Chicken Rice, Hong Kong Mongkok Tim Sum, and Pan Ji Cooked Food, each representing decades of hawker tradition.
Community Hub
Beyond food, Chinatown Complex serves as a community hub for the neighbourhood. Elderly residents gather here for morning kopi, retirees play chess at the tables, and families come together for weekend meals. The wet market below the food centre provides fresh produce, meat, and seafood, making it a one-stop destination for the community.
