Old Airport Road: Heritage on a Plate

Built on history, serving legendary food

Old Airport Road Food Centre sits on the site of Singapore's first civilian airport, preserving both aviation history and hawker heritage.

Historical Site

Old Airport Road Food Centre at 51 Old Airport Road sits on what was once Kallang Airport, Singapore's first civilian airport that operated from 1937 to 1955. When the airport relocated, the area was redeveloped into housing and community facilities. The hawker centre, built in the 1970s, has since become one of the most revered food destinations in Singapore.

Must-Try Stalls

The centre is famous for its BBQ stingray, fried oyster omelette, and hokkien mee. Many stalls here have been operating for 30-40 years, with recipes passed down through generations. The Michelin Bib Gourmand list has featured several stalls here, cementing its reputation as a serious food destination.

Hawker Heritage

Old Airport Road represents the golden era of Singapore hawker food. Many of the original hawkers who set up shop in the 1970s have since retired, but their children and grandchildren continue the tradition. This generational continuity is what makes the centre special: you're not just eating food, you're tasting decades of refined recipes and family pride.
